Matrix Models and Knot Theory

Colloquium

Speaker: Paul Zinn-Justin, Universite Paris-Sud, Orsay
Location: 693 Kerr
Start time: Mon, May 12 2003, 4:10PM

We shall present a survey of the application of matrix models to some enumerative and probabilistic aspects of knot theory. We shall show how to recover alternating links from Feynman diagrams of some matrix integrals, and in particular how the issue of topological equivalences leads to the concept of renormalization. Some exact results are reviewed. Finally, new conjectures on the asymptotic enumeration are formulated.
