Self-focusing of nonlinear waves in a random medium.

Colloquium

Speaker: G. Papanicolaou, Stanford
Location: 693 Kerr
Start time: Mon, May 17 1999, 4:10PM

I will discuss the focusing cubic Schroedinger equation in three dimensions when there are random inhomogeneities present. In the high frequency limit, nonlinear focusing has to be regularized in some way and the random medium does it so that a new stability condition emerges, related to the variance identity of CSE in an unexpected way. I will also show results of numerical solutions.
