The three-dimensional homology cobordism group underlies the study of triangulations on high-dimensional manifolds. I will review what is known about this group, with an emphasis on recent progress based on Pin(2)-equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer spectra and involutive Heegaard Floer homology.
