Mathematics of Data & Decisions

Speaker: Zhe Zhao, UC Davis
Location: 1025 PDSB
Start time: Tue, Oct 15 2024, 3:10PM

From the evolution of deep learning to the emergence of generative AI, we've seen transformative advancements in Machine Learning (ML) and AI technologies. Although we use these AI systems daily through our smartphones and laptops, a significant barrier remains for many to access, modify, and leverage AI for various purposes. In this talk, I will address the critical research needed to create a seamless connection between AI systems and people. This involves (1) designing efficient deep learning algorithms that can generalize across multiple tasks, (2) developing fair and robust AI systems for everyone, and (3) making interactive AI systems understand user feedback and guidance. This research integrates core ML algorithms with applications in natural language understanding, computer vision, and recommendation systems. Lastly, I will discuss new research directions and applications of leveraging novel AI systems for everyone.
