De Loera Honored for Achievements
Jesus De Loera has been selected as a 2003-04 UCD Chancellor's Fellow. The
program was established to honor the achievements of outstanding faculty
members early in their careers, with typically 5-10 UCD faculty members
being selected each year.

Grad Pierce Awarded For Excellent Teaching
James Pierce has been awarded a 2003 Outstanding
Graduate Student Teaching Award. This award, sponsored by the UC Davis
Academic Senate Undergraduate Council and the Teaching Resources Center,
recognizes excellence in teaching by graduate students on the UC Davis campus.

Thompson's Knots Awarded Satter Prize
Abigail Thompson was awarded the 2003 Satter Prize by the American
Mathematical Society at the recent AMS meeting in
Baltimore. This prize recognizes outstanding research contributions in
mathematics by women, and was awarded to Abby for her work in 3-dimensional
topology and knot theory.
