Grad Yvonne Lai Given Chancellor's Achievement Award
Yvonne Lai has won the prestigious Chancellor's Achievement Award for Diversity and Community for 2005 in the Graduate Student category. A richly deserved award, it recognizes Ms. Lai's "contributions in enhancing inclusiveness and diversity at the University of California, Davis." A reception was held at the Chancellor's Residence to honor award recipients on Tuesday, January 24, 2006.

Undergrads Liu, Neff Win Goldwater Scholarship
Two math undergraduates, Lauren M. Lui and Christopher A. Neff, won the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship for 2005. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields.

Vershynin Awarded Sloan
Roman Vershynin was awarded The Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, worth $45,000 over two years. The Sloan Fellowships are intended to provide support to young researchers at the point in their careers when they are establishing independent research projects. This year, the foundation awarded 116 fellowships to researchers at 54 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
